Seminar Topics:

Brenda Smith regularly presents genealogical organization and writing programmes at the Cloverdale Library and elsewhere.

Brenda will be presenting a lecture on maps, 'A La Carte: Using Maps in Family History'. This session will explore how maps can aid the researcher to locate, track and record their ancestors' paths of migration. The second session will be 'Cite That! Citation Made Easy for the Family Historian'. Learn why and how to document your family history reports. This presentation demystifies the process, and shows the importance of recording this information.

Dave Obee is a past President of the Federation of East European Family History Societies. A genealogist since 1978, Dave is one of the owners of Interlink Bookshop & Genealogical Services, which also runs Genealogy Unlimited. He has compiled 6 books to help Canadian genealogists, while researching in Russia, Poland, Ukraine & Germany.

Dave will be offering a session on 'The Error of Our Ways'. Many times well-meaning family historians find themselves at a dead-end because they took a wrong turn, without realizing it. This session includes examples, including several from the television series 'Ancestors in the Attic' - and how those errors could have been avoided. The second session will be 'Destination: Canada'. This lecture includes information on ship passenger lists, border crossing records, and naturalization and citizenship documents. It is an overview of what is available and how to use the information effectively. Special attention is paid to post-1935 records. Many people heading to the United States and Europe went through Canada.
